Emulsifier Products

Select Chem supplies a range of emulsifier products for the asphalt emulsion industry. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we work with customers to support the right chemistry for their application, aggregate, asphalt source, break speed, and performance requirements.

Our emulsifier offerings generally fall into two broad categories: cationic emulsifiers and anionic emulsifiers.

Cationic Emulsifiers

Our cationic emulsifiers are used in a wide range of asphalt emulsion applications, including rapid set, medium set, and slow set systems. These products are commonly used where strong aggregate coating, controlled break, and field performance are critical.

Common cationic applications include:

  • Chip seals and surface treatments
  • Tack coats and trackless tack coats
  • Patch mixes and spray patching
  • Micro-surfacing and slurry seals
  • Cold mix and open-graded cold mix
  • Cold in-place recycling
  • Reclamation and stabilization
  • Fog seals and rejuvenating fog seals
  • Dust control
  • Crack treatment
  • Prime coat applications

Cationic emulsifiers are often selected for applications that require reliable adhesion to aggregate, controlled setting characteristics, and flexibility across different pavement preservation and repair methods.

Anionic Emulsifiers

Select Chem also supplies anionic emulsifiers for slow set, medium set, and rapid set applications. These emulsifiers are often used where the application requires extended workability, good mixing characteristics, or compatibility with specific aggregate and asphalt systems.

Common anionic applications include:

  • Slurry seal
  • Fog seal
  • Prime coat applications
  • Dust control
  • Cold mix asphalt
  • Seal coats
  • Base stabilization
  • Recycling emulsions

Anionic emulsifiers can be useful in applications where mixing time, coating behavior, and emulsion stability are important to the finished product.

Application Support

Because asphalt emulsions are affected by many variables — including asphalt source, aggregate type, water chemistry, additives, jobsite conditions, and desired break speed — Select Chem works with customers to help identify an emulsifier system suited to the specific application.

Whether the need is slow set, medium set, or rapid set, our goal is to provide practical product support and dependable supply for emulsion producers, contractors, and pavement preservation professionals.
